The Berger VLD Hunting Rifle Bullet is widely regarded as one of the flattest-shooting hunting bullets available. Its design mirrors that of the VLD Target Bullet but uses a thinner J4 Precision jacket to promote rapid expansion for hunting applications. Upon impact, the bullet is engineered to penetrate approximately 2–3 inches into the vitals before expanding, creating a large wound cavity of up to 15 inches, which results in significant tissue and organ damage and strong hydrostatic shock for an ethical kill. The secant ogive design reduces drag in flight, allowing for flatter trajectories, reduced wind drift, and higher retained velocity. VLD Hunting Bullets are especially popular for long-range hunting, with many shooters favoring loads that touch the rifling for single-shot use, though some rifles perform best with up to 0.150 inches of jump.
